Mid-Century Prada

Posted on on Tue, 03/09/2010 - 04:00 by Designer Handbag Reviews At Señora Cartera

A few weeks back I told Dania I was interested in covering the new plaid Prada bag. Cough. That was before I realized it wasn't actually plaid. I'd caught a glimpse of it in a Pre-Fall '10 preview and felt a tinge of excitement to see what I thought was a red plaid bag making its way down the runway...

It's actually a Prada textile that has more of a mid-century feel to it. Up close you can discern that it's been printed on the same nylon fabric that originally lifted her label into stardom a couple of decades ago. So if you can get past what is bound to be an exorbitant price for a nylon bag, it appears to be sturdy. Nylon bags can bear a lot of wear and tear and the red leather croc pressed handles add a nice touch. I'm also liking the shape with generous roomy side compartments--very practical. It's potentially a fun every day bag that also carries the clout of Prada. I'm telling you, this bag could be rationalized.

For those who prefer a more sophisticated palette, it also comes in a mustard/teal version of the same print.

So tell me, like or no-like?

Miranda Kerr Boasts Her Balenciaga Croc Bag

Life is pretty good for Miranda Kerr these days. She’s dating Orlando Bloom, she just walked the Prada show, and — whoa nelly! — she’s rocking a fabulous blue Balenciaga Croc Bag that I would kill to own. I love the shot of color, and the chunky silver hardware gives it a youthful edge. Well done, Miranda!

Nicole Kidman Steps Out with Her Tod’s D-Bag

Posted on on Thu, 03/04/2010 - 12:00 by Erin D.

Full disclosure: The word D-bag always makes me snicker (so mature, I know). On the other hand, Tod’s lovely D-bag — shown here in tan on the arm of the amazing Nicole Kidman – is no laughing matter. Though Kidman tends to carry Prada purses, she’s made an exception for this beauty and I don’t blame her. The neutral hue is great for everyday wear, and the design is totally classic. Just like her!

Prada Vitello Daino Hobo

I want spring to be here so badly, but it’s just not happening. In the mean time, I’m thinking this Prada Vitello Daino Hobo would pretty much be a big ol’ bucket of sunshine hanging on my arm, and that might be good enough. I love that this handbag has a shoulder strap in addition to handles, since I can easily fill a purse this big to the brim and I like being able to shift that burden from my arm to my shoulder. Plus, if I want a sleeker look, I can remove the shoulder strap and I’ve got it – once I lighten the load. This hobo also comes in black, which would be great as an everyday designer bag, but the yellow is just too joyful to pass up. Available for $1,395 at Bergdorf Goodman.

Prada Saffiano Soft Frame Clutch

I say a lot more negative things about Prada bags than I say positive, but I promise that I don’t have anything particular against the brand. In fact, my first “designer” bag was a Prada crossbody, and I still…

Milan Fashion Week: Prada Fall 2010

Posted on on Mon, 03/01/2010 - 04:49 by Mariana L.

Avoiding the snow and the storms in New York and London? Jetset yourself over the Milan my darlings, for some continental style. Prada’s show Thursday made as much press for their use of ‘curvy’ models as the looks themselves. The clothing was meant to be “normal” clothes according to Miuccia Prada. Whether she was referring to the wearability (saleability!) or the body types on the runway, I’m not sure. Ladylike coats and suits with big collars were presented in safe black or a sketchy plaid pattern. I can’t help but think this plaid is very similar to the hash-tag like patterns in mossy colors that Prada did in the 1990’s at their first Bryant Park showing. Even the silhouettes look very very similar. I know this economy is tough, but I would think this powerhouse label doesn’t need to play it safe and have to show a rundown of their greatest hits.

The handbags were also familiar shapes. Modified hobos, larger shoppers in shiny crocodile, or plaid tweeds working back to the clothes. The hairstyles and makeup were reminiscent of the 1960’s a la Hitchcock’s ladies.

Miu Miu East-West Buckled Satchel

Posted on on Thu, 02/25/2010 - 08:42 by Designer Handbag Reviews At Señora Cartera

What an absolutely chic bag! Prada's little sister has done good with the East-West Satchel. The black deerskin leather version is the ideal companion for the modern sophisticate. The fold-over flap is slightly reminiscent of a Birkin, but different enough to fit into Miu Miu's "youthful elegance" aesthetic. The satchel has a top handle as well as an adjustable shoulder strap (which you can remove for a more classic look). The gold-tone hardware contrasts with the dark leather exterior and adds a luxurious vibe to the overall design. Buckled straps along the front of the bag provide a utilitarian feel to the satchel that's totally on-trend. The designers were smart to make the straps functional but in an easy way. You won't need to fiddle with the buckles at all. The straps open and close through small push-through studs. Genius! Nab the Miu Miu East-West Buckled Satchel for $1650 via bergdorfgoodman.com, and invest in a great bag you'll use for many years to come.
